Joe Slovo foi outro dos amigos a quem me coube celebrar o desaparecimento prematuro. Este monumento, tão simples e directo quanto ele o sabia ser, aponta apenas o ideal que o guiou, e as contradições que na sua vida, como na de todos nós, se confundiram e, assim, enriqueceram.
O polido e o tosco, a cor simbólica, a dureza e o fragmento.
Fica ainda o lugar das pedras-oferendas e o sítio de sentar para os que na visita reconheçam a obrigação ou a necessidade da recordação e meditação.
Joe Slovo was another of the friends of whom I had to celebrate the premature disappearance. This monument, so simple and as direct as he knew how to be, gives no more than a clue to the ideal and contradictions that, as for all of us, confused and enriched his life.
